I find it fascinating that birds just come with engineering instructions.
Currently watching sunbirds build a nest at my balcony and I always wonder how they know how to do what they do
Ps: Realise that people thought this were the birds I am talking about lol. No, these are taken from xiaohongshu, and these are magpies.

Misinformation was rife as the wildfires spread across Los Angeles last month, and that wasn’t just happening in English language media. For @thexylom, Aorui Pi explains how platforms like WeChat and RedNote served as a vector for fake news, which may have made life harder for Chinese immigrants living in fire-affected areas.
#TikTok alternative #RedNote (Xiaohongshu) fails basic #security measures. RedNote's #API authenticates and functions in plaintext. https://petal.blog/articles/exploiting-rednote.html
Crimson Memo: Analyzing the #Privacy Impact of #Xianghongshu AKA #RedNote
Our first network security analysis of the popular social media app, #RedNote, has revealed some major red flags . The app is used by over 300 million users worldwide - but its network encryption falls short. Read the report: https://citizenlab.ca/2025/02/network-security-issues-in-rednote/
During the #TikTokBan some have characterized #RedNote as an opportunity for #Chinese and western netizens to finally talk to each other, I wonder if anything came out of that? Because from my experience I see that some #international #students (especially Chinese, but certainly applicable to others as well) - already in the West and have little language barrier - don't meaningfully interact outside of their ethnic groups (beyond necessity), and the cause of that should be explored.
The travel advisory to China from the Canadian govt is hilarious lol
Ps: This is one of my fav #Xiaohongshu follows btw. Highly recommend
Now NBA players are on #RedNote.
I love my Follow feed on #xiaohongshu. Full of beauty and lovely people.
My fyp feed is still a shitshow tho. I don't know how many ignorant questions about China and Chinese people I can take .
Yes I can exercise discipline and not engage but damn sometimes these questions are so stupid you gotta see how stupid it gets
With these questions on #xiaohongshu I wonder how much longer the Chinese will remain patient
Interesting video from Asian Boss interviewing Chinese people about the wave of Americans going to #xiaohongshu aka #rednote from #tiktok
I'm not groovy enough for these platforms myself.
it's happening. it's fucking happening. people are fleeing #instagram, #facebook, #x, #tiktok and many of them know that #rednote, as welcoming as it is, can't be a long term solution. for the first time, a huge number of people are looking for a decentralized social media not owned by rich, evil scumbags. six months ago, you wouldn't have been able to get them off those sites at gunpoint. now they are actively studying the #fediverse and joining en masse. I never thought I'd see this day
Chinese man uploads videos expressing his opinion on Luigi Mangione and the U.S. healthcare system into Chinese-owned Rednote. Doesn't get censored.
He then reposts these same videos on American-owned YouTube. All videos get taken down for violating for promotion "violent criminal organizations"??????????
You tell me. Which country appears more free, and which one censors the truth?
Chinese people interacting with Americans in RedNote be like:
Just dropped a video on the TikTok ban, why creators flocked to Red Note, data privacy laws, and how I think the US shot itself in the foot. Watch here: https://youtu.be/oFzWrN8JxYY

Another thing I found out from #xiaohongshu is that Chinese people really HATE term Lunar New Year, so please don't say that to them. It's actually "Spring Festival" (chun jie) or "Guo Nian" (passing of a year). In Malaysia we simply call it Chinese New Year. In Hokkien, we call it "xin jia".
I don't know if we're sensitive about the Lunar bit in Malaysia though.
