Why has mastodon.social gone invite-only two weeks ago? I grew tired of it being used as a hallway, where people enter, make a mess, then move on. It is my home, and I've put a lot into keeping it fast, secure and up-to-date.
Being invite-only means safer timelines, primarily, as trolls and people whose first instinct on a new social platform is to upload their uncensored dick have a harder time getting in.
Neural Nets for Generating Music
Considering human imagination the last piece of wilderness, do you think AI will ever be able to write a good song?
As everyone who is following me on this account has already noticed, I'm running now an own Mastodon instance.
What maybe not everyone knows, I automate my entire infrastructure with Ansible. As my Mastodon is now part of my infrastructure, it also got its own role in my infrastructure repository.
By the way, for those who wonder how complicated it is to setup an account using your blog domain, while running mastodon on a subdomain, there is a pretty complete guide in the official documentation:
On my blog it was as easy as this:
What if you take the idea behind QubesOS and combine it with Flatpak?
FlatXen! Well, since Xen was a bit too complicated or not Redhat enough, Sergio López decided to go for KVM and created FlatKVM!
It's still early but I'm looking forward to it.
I was going to announce it a bit later and more properly, but Mastodon received a $70k grant from Samsung NEXT through OpenCollective. I intend to make it available to those who contribute to the project, and have already notified some of the most regular contributors. The way OpenCollective works is that anyone can submit an expense and all transactions are listed transparently. It also holds the money.
As for myself, I intend to continue using Patreon for my own wage/costs.
#Mastodon 2.7 is released 🎉
be excellent to each other
