Bit more attention now in the press to ‘spay clause’ 104 in the Online Safety Bill. This is what we are sounding a ‘red alert’ over. Index on Censorship acquired a legal opinion by Matrix Chambers saying it would contravene two articles in ECHR. Building on @openright aanyalsis and briefing. If you are in the UK take action and start causing a fuss. inews.co.uk/news/politics/onli

We are the front line of a global war on encryption. If we can’t fend off this sort of mass surveillance in a liberal democracy then all of humanity gets put in a darker path towards authoritarianism - look at people fighting against surveillance states in China and Hong Kong to see where this goes! #onlinesafetybill #privacy #clause104 come on fellow Brits. Let’s tell our MPs to drop the spy clause action.openrightsgroup.org/wri

Seeing reports that Huawei is censoring posts about the #A4Revolution in #China, automatically deleting photos from phones w/o informing users. (twitter.com/MsMelChen/status/1)

This is why privacy advocates criticized #Apple for trying to launch a feature last year to scan all photos on user devices—before they’re uploaded to iCloud.

Even if the feature is developed for good purposes (like stopping CSAM), the risks to #privacy are dangerous.

The government wants to get in your DMs.

The #OnlineSafetyBill will make messaging apps scan what you're saying and what images you're sharing before they get encrypted. It unlocks your privacy.

RT @selinawangtv@twitter.com

Went back to the exact same place where protests were in Beijing last night in Liangmaqiao. Totally quiet. Instead, entire street of police vans.
This is a police state w/ far-reaching security/surveillance. No social media that allows people to easily mobilize and gather either

I still get blown away by how smart it is to be able to have an idea for a part. Fire up wonderful #Opensource @FreeCAD and then less than half an hour after the idea my part is in my hand off the #3Dprinter.

Would the protests in China be illegal in the UK after the Police and Crime Bill have passed? If they were committing any public order offences then under the Online Safety Bill platforms would be legally required to censor that content. That should scare you deeply openrightsgroup.org/blog/onlin

A BBC journalist was just beaten by police while covering protests in #Shanghai and, incredibly, authorities are claiming they arrested him to protect him from getting COVID in the crowd.

It's incredible to watch the messages of last month's Sitong Bridge protester echo across campuses around the world, and now among increasingly vocal protesters located within China: theguardian.com/world/2022/nov
